INTRODUCTION
In 1924, Denman Leeman, a leading light in Scunthorpe musical circles, decided to extend an existing Methodist Church quartet. By doing so, he established a tradition of male voice singing in North Lincolnshire which has gone from strength to strength and continues to thrive today.
The modern choir has a complement of more than fifty voices and has grown into one of the leading music groups in the area.
Mr Leeman led the choir for the first 44 years of its existence and, when Keith Morgan took up the baton in 2007, he became only the fourth conductor in the choir’s eighty-five year history. Accompanists have shown similar loyalty to the choir’s cause and Margaret Walker and Ann Rook, our current pianists, have, between them, given more than fifty years service.
The choir promotes between 12 and 15 concerts each year, both locally and in other parts of the U.K., and in recent years they have been regular visitors to the USA.
