Player Of The Season 08/09 - Darren Stanley
Manager Si Hodson held a surprise presentation night after the home victory against DMS. With most players already gone home from the after match drink in the Royal Oak, in general chit chat Si decided it was time to announce the player of the year. Exclusive conversation details -
Si - "Well i suppose i better buy you a trophy"
Stanley - "What for??"
Si - "Player of the year"
Stanley "Why, did i win??"
Si - "Yes"
With that news, Stanley turned around to a near empty pub and held aloft his empty pint glass in celebration. He said afterwards "It just goes to show you have to expect the unexpected with DSV, i certainly wasnt expecting that and haven't had time to do a speech". Meanwhile assistant manager Chapman looked flabergasted in stunned silence.
Yes, despite asking the manager not to tell anyone who the Player of The Season was from last season until the 'Presentation Night', he big fat went and did it anyway - to the actual player himself AND Barney!
So here seems as good a place as any to name The DSV Players Player Of The Season for 2007/2008 as Darren Stanley.
Dazzer had an excellent first full season for DSV showing an unrivalled level of consistency. Daz was commanding at the back throughout and has now added this award to the Player Of The Season award he picked up from his Saturday side, Barrow Wanderers, making it a clean sweep for him in 2007/2008. Well done Daz!
It could have been oh so different though as Phil Cole came within a whisker of snatching it and with one vote to come it was delicately poised.
Phil also had a cracking full first season, showing glimpses of magic down the left flank which often left his opposition wondering why he bothered getting out of bed in the morning. More of the same next season please Colemeister!
But there could only be one winner and Dazzer ultimately took the honours. Dazzer will be presented with his Winners trophy.......soon......i think!

League Fixtures Announced
The League and Cup fixtures for the forthcoming season have been released.
Playing in the Scunthorpe League Division Three during the 2008/2009 campaign, DSV open up with a home game against relegated Crowle Keys on the 31st of August with a 10.30am kick off.
Following that will see consecutive away fixtures at Bondz FC and Queens and then a home Challenge Cup game against Priory Cobras.
A three week break will then commence before DSV return to action with an away game at rivals Baysgarth Old Boys at Baysgarth school on October 19th and will then face another away game at Trinity a week later.
November sees just two fixtures barring progression in the cups with an away game at Barnetby followed by a home game against last seasons runaway champions, Janneys Allstars.
Three consecutive home games against Queensway, Barnetby and Hibaldstow complete Decembers line-up before DSV engage in more potential cup games.
The 18th of January will see our home game with Baysgarth Old Boys - our only PM kick off throughout the entire season and following that Duffs Dynamoes will be making the journey over.
February sees an away game at Queensway with two home games against Bondz and Trinity to follow.
March will see DSV clock up a fair few miles starting with an away trip out to Crowle and Hibaldstow a week later, then Queens will be our next home opponents before another mammoth trip out into the sticks to face Duffs.
The season will wrap up on April 12th with a tricky looking fixture away at Janneys.

Record Number of Hits For Website
The DSV homepage attracted a record number of hits during the month of June 2008 with a total of 2298 averaging 77 per day!
This is up on the previous best which was recorded in February 2006 where we had 1670 visitors - a mammoth increase of 628 hits, not bad for my first month of running the site!
I'd like to thank everyone for viewing the website and hope that you find the new content interesting and enjoyable to read.
